If Your Door Won’t Open
Before we arrive, there are a couple of safe things you can check, and a few things you should never touch.
- Pull the red release cord to disconnect the door from the opener, then try moving the door by hand. Never stand underneath a door in the open position while doing this.
- If the door moves freely by hand once disconnected, the issue is likely the opener, not the door itself.
- If you still can’t lift it by hand, something is wrong with the door. Most often, this is a broken spring or cable, and you’ll need a professional.
- Do not touch the springs or cables, and do not try to re-seat a cable that’s come off the drum. These parts hold serious stored tension and can cause serious injury if handled without the right tools and know-how.
